Background of RX-78 NT-1 Gundam: In relation to the RX-78 series, according to the storyline of which, no matter to the official stories or side stories, there are various types of RX-78s. However, there is only one heir for RX-78-2 in the storyline of UC, and she is RX-78-NT 1. During the late 0079, Earth Federation revealed the original RX-78-2 herself had a serious problem. The idea of that was not meant the original RX-78-2 was not fully developed and tested before she was deployed to the battlefield. In fact, it was the matter of the pilot, Amuro Ray. The original concept and of RX-78-2 was designed for close combat. In other words, that meant she was supposedly to be fast enough with high mobility to handle the “MS to MS” battles. However, due to her pilot, Amuro Ray, the first known “Newtype” in the Universal Century who had an unimaginable ability with outstanding predictions to MS’s movement already pushed RX-78-2 far beyond the original designed limit. Under such circumstances, that meant RX-78-2 was proved to be not matched with Amuro’s ability or, even overworked. In order to rectify such fatal problem, Earth Federation immediately launched another R&D project, named under “ALEX”. The original concept of this was to having an entirely new and enhanced Gundam constructed and delivered her to Amuro as a replacement for the overworked RX-78-2. Therefore, the serial number of this new Gundam was under RX-78-NT1. “NT1” meant the “The first for Newtype”. Generally “NT1” had the following features, first, due to the “Core Block System” was extremely complicated and costly, this was removed initially and replaced with a new designed cockpit named “360 degree panoramic monitor”. With this feature, it allowed the pilot to have a complete view of the battlefield so that the pilot himself would have a better response and reactions, for instance, targeting. The next feature that “NT1” had was “Magnetic Coating”. With this coating technology, it allowed “NT1” to reduce the friction between the joints and increased the maneuverability of which. Unfortunately, RX-78-NT1 was never delivered to Amuro. It was because such classified intelligence was leaked and in order to prevent this worst case scenario, Zion immediately formed a special task force named “Cyclops Team” and the ultimate mission of which was to either captured NT1 or having her destroyed before she can actually deployed to the battlefield. In the late 0079, a small entanglement was happened between “Cyclops Team” and the test pilot of NT1, Christina Mackenzie. During this entanglement, “Cyclops Team” had almost damaged NT1. Doubtlessly, “Cyclops Team” had never stood a chance for in front of this new-developed Gundam and it caused all of the members of which was KIA. Unfortunately, because it was almost the end of “One Year War” and Earth Federation found victory was on their side. They decided to abort this project and claimed such small entanglement was only a “War in the Pocket”.
