Background of MS-18 Kampfer:

If MS14S Gelgoog was an example of “Too late, too little” during the era of “One Year War”, then, MS-18E Kämpfer, can be considered as another perfect example of which.  In certain perspective, if MS-18E Kämpfer can be deployed to the battlefield a bit earlier, same as Gelgoog, It was believed the outcome of the “One Year War” would be a different story.  One should be amazed by the R&D team of Zion because she always had such brilliant idea to develop a MS for different applications to meet every need for the battlefield. 

During the late 0079, the R&D team of Zion had developed a MS with a totally new idea that had ever seen before, “Hit and Run Approach”.  In order to accomplish this idea, this MS required being fast enough in speed, heavily armed enough to perform a fast strike, and fast enough to escape at once.   Therefore, MS-18E Kämpfer was constructed. 

MS-18E Kämpfer equipped with shotgun, bazooka, and numerous booster in order to improve the speed of which so that she can approach the target in unbelievable speed for the purpose of “Hit and Run Approach”.  However, her advantage was also her disadvantage.  It was because of her original concept; this piece of MS had no other choice but to sacrifice her protection, armor, also the limited operational time mainly due to her fuel consumption, especially in high speed assault and escape. Because of such flaws, that made this MS was not a well-balanced one.

The one and only remarkable battle for MS-18E Kämpfer was a showdown with RX-18-NT1 during the entanglement in the late 0079, which was later claimed as “War in the Pocket” by the Federalists.  During this entanglement, MS-18E Kämpfer was damaged by NT1 while she had to destroy NT1.
