Background of METEOR: METEOR units are from the famous Gundam Seed anime. METEOR is built by ZAFT as a supporting unit for their most advanced mobile suit, ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam and ZGMF-X09A Justice Gundam. METEOR stands for Mobile suit Embedded Tactical EnfORcer. Though both Gundams were ahead of their time in terms of power, weapons, and agility, the METEOR unit transformed both units from mere mobile suits into mobile fortresses. The METEOR’s extensive armament, including four high energy beam cannons, two giant beam swords and missile launchers, allows both Gundams to battle against mass number of enemy mobile suits far beyond the capability of the Gundams were designed for . While the pilots control the Gundam mobile suits, the suits control the METEOR units, giving the suits ultimate attacking range and power. METEOR units allow both Gundams to extend their range and effectiveness of their attack, which made them especially effective against ships and a group of enemy mobile suits. The concept is pretty much the same as the RX-78 GP-03 Gundam “Dendrobium Orchis” from the series “Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory / The Afterglow of Zeon”. The METEOR units are stored aboard the transport ship Eternal. They act as main canon for Eternal, once they are detached and in hand of the 2 Gundams, they become the major attacking units for the force. Athrun (Justice Gundam) and Kira (Freedom Gundam) utilizes the METEOR in the final battle at the war’s end in September C.E. 71. They were using the units to prevent Earth Alliance’s nuclear attack on the PLANTS. In the final battle, Athrun abandoned his METEOR unit to penetrate the GENESIS doomsday weapon, while Kira’s METEOR was destroyed in battle with Rau Le Creuset's ZGMF-X13A Providence Gundam. Without the METEOR unit, Athrun and Kira would never be able to cease the nuclear attack from Earth Alliance, and won the war at the end.
